High school Re-June-ion Party favors 2021
It never crossed my mind that I would have a high school reunion living in a different country from where I grew up, but it HAPPENED… and it was in June! So I am not kidding when I said it was a Re-June-ion!
This was such a beautiful event in my life, growing up in Mexico in a small town, you kind of go to the same school from kindergarten to high school and your friends become a very special part of your life, because besides watching you grow, they share almost the same experiences, and have the same values.
Oddly enough, four of my friends that live in the US now live in the same city and three of them even live in my neighborhood! And even more odd, three of us grew up living the same street! Weird right?
So you can imagine how many experiences we have shared together and how exciting it was meeting them after more than 30 years!!
Due to the pandemic we changed the date of the reunion so many times and finally agreed to meet in early June. It was not in my mind to make cookies for this important event, I was so excited that I didn't think cookie for once in my life. A few hours before the reunion, I had the idea of making some photo cookies and started gathering the pictures. I always have cookie dough and royal icing ready, so I put my self in action and made the cookies!
You can watch the video on how to make these cookies here:
For these cookies I used the following materials:
- High school pictures, high school logo and school's uniform
- 3 in’’ squared and circle cookie cutters
- Magic consistency royal icing
- Edible photo printing
- Edible markers
PROCEDURE:
To make these cookies I first gathered some pictures of my friends and snapped some pictures of them with my phone. I then uploaded them to Canva and used a polaroid frame template and placed the pictures in the center. Finally I printed them on edible frosting paper. Additionally I was inspired by the school logo and uniform to make some other cookies.
Our uniform was very popular and people made a lot of jokes about it, because we used to wear it all day. We were very proud of it, or I don't know why, but we used to wear it almost 24-7 (I’m exaggerating here, we gave it a break on the weekends)
One thing that I would have liked to use to make the cookies look more like polaroids was a polaroid shaped cookie cutter.
I baked and covered the cookies with the royal icing and let them sit for a little bit and meanwhile I cut out the pictures. When I add edible images to cookies, I like to put the image when the icing is almost dry, so the image dries on faster. If you are going to put the cookies in cellophane bags, you have to be sure that they are completely dry.
For the circle cookies, I put the image of the school uniform and let it dry completely. Later I wrote some prayers that we used to pray before each class started using a fine point edible marker.
Although I make a lot of cookies, I almost never see the reaction when they see the cookies, but this time I was able to experience it. Let me tell you, it was SO NICE to see the smiles on their faces! I never thought that a simple cookie could bring so much joy, and I am so happy about it, because as you know one of my main goals is to put a smile on your face with my cookies. I thought to my self, mission accomplished!
I hope that this idea will inspire you to make something like this. If you don't have an edible ink printer, you can order custom printing on Etsy or some local cake supplies stores offer this kind of service.
If you are planning on having a Re-June-ion, this idea will make the perfect thoughtful party favor!
